What's Required for a Bedside Notarization

To complete a notarization at a hospital or healthcare facility:

1. The signer must be present

The individual signing the document must be physically present for the notarization (unless the document qualifies for an approved online notarization option).

2. Valid photo identification is required

A current government-issued photo ID is generally required.

3. The signer must be willing and mentally aware

The signer must understand what they are signing and willingly choose to sign the document.

If the patient is heavily medicated, unconscious, disoriented, unable to communicate, or otherwise unable to demonstrate awareness, Florida law may prevent the notarization from proceeding. In these situations, we may need to postpone the appointment until the signer is able to communicate clearly.

4. Witnesses (only if required)

Some legal documents require witnesses in addition to a notary. If you're unsure whether witnesses are needed, please ask before your appointment so we can help you prepare.

Before Scheduling Your Appointment

To help avoid unnecessary delays, please confirm the following before we arrive:

✔ The patient is awake and able to communicate.

✔ The patient understands the document being signed.

✔ Valid identification is available whenever possible.

✔ The healthcare facility permits outside visitors or notary appointments.

If you're uncertain about any of these requirements, please call us before scheduling. We'll gladly discuss your situation and help determine whether the notarization can proceed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you offer same-day hospital notarization services in Kissimmee?

Yes. Same-day appointments are often available depending on scheduling and facility access.

Can you notarize at nursing homes and assisted living facilities?

Absolutely. We regularly travel to hospitals, rehabilitation centers, assisted living communities, skilled nursing facilities, hospices, and nursing homes.

What if the patient is sedated or not fully alert?

The signer must be able to communicate, understand the document, and appear willing to sign. If this is not possible during the appointment, Florida law may require the notarization to be postponed.

Do you provide witnesses?

Witness requirements depend on the document. If witnesses are needed, it's best to arrange them ahead of time. If you're unsure, contact us and we'll help you determine what's required.

A Common Misunderstanding About Hospital Notary Services

Many families assume that the hospital can simply notarize important legal documents for a patient. In our experience, this is one of the biggest misconceptions we encounter.

While some healthcare facilities may have a notary available in limited circumstances, most hospitals do not provide notary services for estate planning or other legal documents.

Another common misunderstanding involves witnesses. Many people assume that a nurse, social worker, or other hospital employee can serve as a witness. However, hospital staff are often prohibited by facility policies from acting as witnesses for legal documents. In many cases, families don't discover this until the appointment is underway, which can result in unnecessary delays or require the notarization to be rescheduled.

If your document requires witnesses, it's best to discuss this with us before your appointment. Based on availability, we may be able to provide one or more witnesses for an additional fee. Letting us know in advance allows us to confirm witness availability and helps prevent delays on the day of your appointment.

Can you help me choose or complete legal forms?

We can answer questions about the notarization process, but we cannot provide legal advice, recommend legal documents, or tell you how to complete them. For legal guidance, please consult a qualified attorney.
